Sheffield United Make Everton Starlet First January Signing

Sheffield United have confirmed they have signed Everton midfielder Kieran Dowell on loan for the rest of the season.

The England Under-21 international will join the Blades whe the transfer window reopens on January 2nd.

Chris Wilder says he is delighted that Dowell has opted to make the move to Bramall Lane. The United manager revealed that he tried to sign the midfielder before the start of the season when David Brooks departed for Bournemouth:

“We tried to sign Kieran in the summer when David Brooks left. Kieran is a talented player, left-footed, brings a balance to the group and gives us competition at the top of the pitch.”

The 21-year-old has only made two appearances for the Toffees this season, both coming in the Carabao Cup. He played the full 90 minutes in the 3-1 win over Rotherham in August, but in the next round, he was substituted at halftime in the penalty shootout loss to Southampto.

However, Dowell performed well during a season-long loan spell at Nottingham Forest last season. He scored ten goals and provided five assists in 43 appearances for the Championship club.
