REPORT: Sheffield United Among Three Teams Vying To Sign Everton Centre Back On Loan

Sheffield United are interested in taking Everton defender Mason Holgate on loan in the January transfer window, according to reports in the English media.

The 22-year-old started four of the first five Premier League games under manager Marco Silva but has slipped down the pecking order at Goodison Park following the arrival of Yerry Mina from Barcelona.

Holgate has not been include in a matchday squad since the 2-1 win over Leicester City in early October, and it is believed that Silva is prepared to loan out the England Under 21 international next month.

The Blades will not be the only club interested in the centre-back, though, with Championship rivals Derby County and Premier League side Fulham also reportedly keen to recruit him.

United manager Chris Wilder has confirmed he is looking to strengthen his squad depth in January, with loan moves being lined up:

“Concentrating on loans takes us down a different route. I would rather go on the longer term view – the club knows that – but we have to get the right player. We are an attractive proposition to players. Hopefully, we can keep this position going into January to make us even more attractive.”

The Blades currently sit fifth in the Championship table heading into the busy festive period.
