Sky Sports and ITV pundit Roy Keane has criticised Sheffield United defender Ethan Ampadu for going down too easily in the box during Wales’ 0-0 draw against the Republic of Ireland yesterday.
The Chelsea loanee dropped to the ground, clutching his head as Ireland keeper Darren Randolph scrambled to retrieve a loose ball after dropping it at a corner. Keane said he was not impressed after Ampadu went down after very little contact:
“Just disgraceful, really. This Ampadu, like, what’s the game coming to? He should be ashamed of himself, grabbing his head. I’d be embarrassed if I was him. Ridiculous.”
It doesn’t look great but Ampadu is a young player learning the game. Blades boss Chris Wilder may have something to say about it when the player returns from international duty but the defender is likely to get a good amount of game time in the coming months.
With Jack O’Connell expected to be out for the season with a knee injury, Ampadu could be called into the starting eleven to fill in at the back on a regular basis.
