Blades Circle As Chelsea Decide To Loan Out Welsh International Defender

Sheffield United are the favourites to sign Chelsea defender Ethan Ampadu, according to the Sun journalist Alan Nixon:

The Blues have made the decision to loan out the Welsh international for another season after the player spent last campaign on loan in Germany with RB Leipzig.

Ampadu can play as a centre-back or as a holding midfield player, but he is unlikely to get much game time this season due to the number of options Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has in his squad.

The London club have signed two new centre-backs in Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr, to add to the four centre-halves they already have at their disposal.

In midfield, the competition for places is just as fierce with N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho and Billy Gilmour all vying for starts alongside Ampadu.

Where Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder sees the 19-year-old fitting into the team, we shall have to wait and see, but his ability to play in multiple positions will certainly help to get him the game time he needs.
