There was some scepticism after Sheffield United striker David McGoldrick was signed on a free transfer in the summer.
The 30-year-old was released by Ipswich at the end of last season, but since his arrival at Bramall Lane, he has performed very well for Chris Wilder’s side.
His late winner against Preston at the weekend capped what was a man of the match display, and fans on Twitter heaped praise on the Irish international’s start to life at the club:
Misleading article there's been no criticism of him he's quality full stop

I thought that. Been quality for me.

Spot on. His work rate is incredible and is a quality player.
Not seen any negativity on here but I only follow football fans not kids who know nothing.— Ian (@iantheblade) 23 September 2018
I haven't seen any criticism of McGoldrick unless you mean the a) idiots who point out we spent no money on him or b) he should have more goals so far (which he probably admits he should). That said his general play has been very good

I think he's settling down now and his contribution to each game is getting more each time. All I have a problem with is when the strikers fail to hit the target when they should, it's a fundamental part of scoring.

Very good link up player. Never going to get a ton of goals. Simply does a job.

McGoldrick fully deserved MOTM today, and well overdue that goal. His touch, hold-up play, and positional sense at times is outstanding. #twitterblades #SUFC

Not only did McGoldrick score, but he set up the opening goal for Billy Sharp in the 3-2 win on Saturday. He has started three of the last four games, keeping Leon Clarke on the bench for the most part since the no.9’s return from injury.
Although not a prolific goalscorer, his work rate alongside a natural finisher like Billy Sharp has given the frontline an added edge for the Blades.
