Will Sheffield United Let Billy Sharp Leave On-Loan?

The Blades’ captain Billy Sharp was one of the main reasons Sheffield United won League 1 last season and secured automatic promotion to the Championship.

Sharp banged in 30 goals as the Blades ran away with the League 1 title.

However the 31 year old striker has only played in the FA Cup tie against Ipswich Town so far in 2018 and there were rumours circulating that he might be looking to leave Bramall Lane in search of more game time.

With the recent addition of James Wilson on-loan from Man United who scored on his full debut, the good form of Leon Clarke who is the joint top scorer in the Championship with 15 goals along with Derby County’s Matej Vydra plus the solid performances of Clayton Donaldson, Billy Sharp looked like he might be surplus to requirements.

Chris Wilder however speaking after the away win over Norwich City has reassured fans that Sharp is still wanted and that he will be using the United captain as the Blades continue their pursuit of a play-off place.

Wilder had this to say:

“There are a few lads who weren’t involved who have every right to be a bit disappointed.

“But they will be.

“We just wanted to change things around a little bit here, for this one, and the lads did well.

“But, as I’ve always said, it’s not about an eleven, it’s about the group. Some of those haven’t done anything wrong.

“My captain [Sharp] isn’t getting many games at the minute. But everyone has an important part to play if we want to do what we believe we can.”

Hopefully Wilder can continue his superb spell at Bramall Lane and will be able to keep all his players happy as he chase the Holy Grail of a spot in the Premier League.
