Sheffield United fans rejoiced in unison as their team defeated Blackburn Rovers in dramatic fashion to reach the FA Cup semi-finals – however, they were less enthusiastic upon learning that they had been drawn against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
This is a tough draw for the Blades for several reasons. Of course, there’s the obvious reason – Manchester City are currently one of the strongest teams in world football and Guardiola tries to win every competition the Citizens are involved in.
However, perhaps more damningly, both James McAtee and Tommy Doyle will be unable to play, as City is their parent club. To miss out on the services of two key players in such a difficult game will be a massive blow to the Blades’ FA Cup dreams – here’s what the fans had to say about the situation.

Sheffield United will compete in the semi final of the FA Cup for the third time this century, and looking to clinch promotion to the top flight for the 3rd time.

Sheffield United last reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup back in 2014, where they were knocked out in a thrilling encounter with fellow Yorkshire outfit Hull City.
Manchester City have been upset by lower-tier opposition in the FA Cup before – in 2018, they were shockingly knocked out of the competition by League One Wigan Athletic.
It’s a very tough ask for Sheffield United, especially without two of their most important players – one of whom scored the winning goal against Blackburn. It’s unlikely that they’ll progress, but regardless, the Blades can be extremely proud of their FA Cup bravery this season.
