Wilder expects instant impact from summer signings

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has insisted that the Blades’ signings this summer must all be capable of making an instant impact at the club, as they prepare to push for promotion next season.

The Blades are understood to be looking for various players this summer that have experience in the Premier League or Championship, a policy Wilder believes will give United the best chance possible of finishing in the top 6 next season – having narrowly missed out during the 17/18 season.

Wilder is believed to be in the market for a goalkeeper, a centre-back and two strikers. But warns any new recruits have to be capable of going straight into the first team.

“Whoever comes in has got to be able to go straight in,” said Wilder. “They’ve got to have the ability, the experience of both to be involved right from the start. That’s the type of people we’re looking at.

“There’s plenty going on. We’re working hard behind the scenes to get the people we want in.

“We’ve got quality here and we want to bring even more to keep on improving the levels.

“Of course, there will always be exceptions but what we want is lads who can go in from the beginning and challenge for a place. Players who can bring that little bit of extra edge to the team.

“By getting those, that keeps driving the levels up. It gives us the opportunity of building on our progress.”
