Three Clubs Could Jeopardise The Blades’ Plans To Sign Versatile Defender

Celtic, Bournemouth and Racing Genk have all emerged as serious contenders in Sheffield United’s attempts to sign Preston North End defender Ben Davies, according to reports in England.

The 25-year-old’s contract at Deepdale expires in the summer, and the Blades see it as a great opportunity to sign a player who could slot comfortably into Chris Wilder’s back three.

However, Davies, who can play as a centre-half or left-back, has some misgivings about the switch, with the Yorkshire club expected to be relegated following a terrible start to the season.

A move to Bournemouth could be a more attractive option with the Cherries in contention to be promoted just a season after dropping into the Championship. Both Celtic and Genk, meanwhile, could offer the chance of playing in Europe.

It means United will have their work cut out if they are to persuade Davies into moving to Bramall Lane at the end of the campaign.
