“The Obvious One…” Injury Plagued Sheffield United Star Backed For Surprise Rangers Switch

Ex-Rangers striker Kris Boyd has backed his former club to make a move for Sheffield United midfielder John Fleck.

The 31-year-old has had two major injury setbacks this season, limiting him to just eleven appearances, but Boyd believes he could be a target for the Gers due to his previous association with the Scottish side:

“The obvious one for me would be John Fleck. [Rangers boss] Michael Beale has spoken about that central midfield area. John Fleck has been at Rangers before. He has been brought up in it. He is a totally different player now from the one that left Rangers. People like him would be on my radar.”

Fleck started out life in Rangers’ academy before moving to Coventry City on a free transfer in the summer of 2012. He then made the switch to Bramall Lane four years later.

The Scotland international’s future is up in the air. His current deal with the Blades does expire at the end of the season, and talks regarding a takeover of the Yorkshire club mean he may not be offered an extension at this stage.

Fleck’s sale during the January transfer window can, therefore, not be ruled out, with manager Paul Heckingbottom needing to raise funds for incoming transfers that could help the team’s promotion push.
