Sky Sports Pundit Justifies His Choice Of Wilder Ahead Of Klopp For Manager Of The Year

Sky Sports pundit Danny Higginbotham has given his backing to Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder to win the Premier League Manager of the Year award.

Many are tipping Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to get the accolade, considering the Reds have dropped just five points this season, but Higginbotham says it is important to recognise where the two clubs were last campaign:

“I compare it to last season and what Sheffield United did last season and yes they got promoted automatically from the Championship but to finish where they’re looking like they will finish, I don’t care whether Jurgen Klopp wins the Premier League by how many points it is.”

“You have to give it to Chris Wilder just because of what he’s done. Sheffield United have been incredible.”

Sitting in seventh position with ten games to go, when they were tipped for relegation after being promoted from the Championship, is quite some achievement.

If they win their game in hand, they would be just two points off fourth-place Chelsea, heading into the closing fixtures of the season, which is remarkable in of itself.

Every Blades fan will be hoping that Wilder’s men will be able to complete the campaign when the global health crisis begins to ease, but no matter what happens, Wilder’s accomplishments should not go unrewarded.
