Number Of Blades Stars On International Duty Shows Quality Of Wilder’s United Squad

A number of Sheffield United stars have been called up for international duty over the next week, with six of Chris Wilder’s men hoping to represent their countries.

Mo Besic has been called up for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Euro 2020 qualifiers against Liechtenstein and Armenia, with the 26-year-old hoping to add to his 42 caps.

Forward Oli McBurnie has been named in Scotland’s squad for their Euro 2020 qualifying double header against Russia and Belgium. At 23, McBurnie has 7 caps, and is in fine form having scored his first goal for the Blades against Leicester last weekend.

Joining Besic and McBurnie away from the squad is Irish quartet John Egan, Enda Stevens, David McGoldrick and Callum Robinson, who have all been named in the squad for the qualifiers with Switzerland and Bulgaria.

Mick McCarthy had named a 40-man provisional squad earlier this month and all four United players on the list made the final cut. Egan is looking to win his 5th cap, while the other three players mentioned will hope to add to their respective 6 caps.

One man who won’t be away on international duty is midfielder Oliver Noorwoord.

The 28-year-old midfielder made the announcement last month that he will retire from Northern Ireland, saying he wanted to concentrate on his club career with Sheffield United.
