Sheffield United Star Rescues Late Draw As He Stars On International Duty

Sheffield United striker David McGoldrick was the hero as he scored a vital late equaliser for the Republic of Ireland against Switzerland in the Euro 2020 qualifier yesterday evening.

The Irish were trailing to a Fabian Schar goal before the Blades forward powered in a header six minutes from time to secure a crucial point in their Group D encounter.

It was McGoldrick’s first goal for his country but it was only his eleventh cap despite making his debut all the way back in 2014.

The 31-year-old has been a regular first-team starter under his former Ipswich manager Mick McCarthy during the current qualifying campaign. He has helped Ireland to an unbeaten start with his team currently topping their group after five matches played.

They next face Bulgaria in a friendly on Tuesday evening before they have a doubleheader in October against Georgia and Switzerland as the qualifiers reach their final stages.
