Sheffield United Set For Fierce Summer Battle For 21 Year Old Defender

Sheffield United are one of six clubs tracking Wolves centre-back Dion Sanderson, according to reports in the English media.

The 21-year-old is currently on a season-long loan at Sunderland and his performances for the League One outfit have impressed the Blades, along with Brighton, Crystal Palace, Huddersfield Town and Bristol City.

Sunderland would like to keep Sanderson permanently but interest from teams in the Premier League and the Championship mean they are unlikely to keep the defender beyond the summer.

Wolves are, though, believed to be open to selling Sanderson for the right price, with manager Nuno Espirito Santo not having space for him in his squad. The player is also entering the final twelve months of his contract at Molineux and it would seem like the right time to cash in with his stock high.

Sanderson’s ability to play left-back and right-back would make him a perfect fit for the Blades’ back three. Manager Chris Wilder has had to cope with a lot of injuries in defence and it seems he has identified a potential target to reinforce his options.
