Sheffield United Plotting Double Deal As Wilder Eyes Defensive Reinforcements

Sheffield United are looking to sign Anderlecht centre-back Elias Cobbaut and Ipswich Town defender Luke Woolfenden in the January transfer window, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper reports that Blades boss Chris Wilder is looking to reinforce his defensive options, after having to rely on Chris Basham, John Egan and Jack O’Connell for the majority of the season.

Cobbaut is a Belgian international and is only 22 years of age. He is a left-back by trade, but can play in the centre of defence as well so would fit perfectly in a three-man backline.

Woolfenden, meanwhile, has impressed for Ipswich in League One this season. The 21-year-old is predominantly a centre-half but he was utilised at right-back on occasion during his loan spell with Swindon last season.

Wilder said last month that he was looking to bring in up to three players in January, and it seems at least two of them will be defenders.
