Sheffield United Opted Against Last Minute Swoop For Portuguese International

Sheffield United made an enquiry for Leeds winger Helder Costa before deciding against a bid for the 27-year-old, according to reports in the UK.

In what was a frantic last day for the Blades, which saw them recruit Wolves’ Morgan Gibbs-White and Roma’s Robin Olsen just before the transfer window closed, it appears they were also looking at a move for Costa.

The Portuguese international was deemed surplus to requirements by Leeds after the Premier League side signed Daniel James from Manchester United for £25m.

Costa has had a good deal of experience in the English Championship, making 111 appearances for both Wolves and Leeds, but it’s likely he was keener on a move to Spain, with it being confirmed on Tuesday that he had joined Valencia on loan.

United boss Slavisa Jokanovic will be glad to have brought in some reinforcements, though, especially after the Yorkshire club’s poor start to the season that has seen him pick up just two points from five matches.
