REPORT: Sheffield United Have Interest In Premier League Midfield Gem

Sheffield United are reportedly interested in a move for Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O’Brien regarding a potential transfer, according to a piece by Yorkshire Live.

Since moving to Nottingham Forest in the summer transfer window of 2022, O’Brien has found himself in footballing limbo. He has had limited appearances for Forest, but they also seem unwilling to let him go on a permanent basis.

When he joined the club, it appeared as though he would be a star player at the City Ground – but their profligate spending spree saw him and fellow Huddersfield Town alumni Harry Toffolo getting lost in the mix.

With the 2023/24 Premier League season drawing ever closer, United are in need of a creative midfield player – a transfer for Lewis O’Brien to Bramall Lane could be just what they need to supply their forwards.

Who else, besides Sheffield United, are linked with a move for Lewis O’Brien?

In the last couple of months, Sheffield United appear to be the only club who have been explicitly linked with a move for O’Brien over the last couple of months – but this does not mean that they are alone in the race to acquire his coveted signature.

He spent a large portion of the 2022/23 season on loan at Wayne Rooney’s DC United – it appears that the MLS club may be interested in extending his stay in the USA.

Additionally, back in March, Blackburn Rovers reportedly submitted a loan offer for the player, but it was blocked by Forest. With the summer transfer window well underway, they could resume their interest as they try to get back into the Premier League.

Lewis O’Brien football career summary so far

Born in 1998 in Colchester, Lewis O’Brien joined the youth academy of Huddersfield Town when he was 11 years of age. After nine years in the Terriers’ academy, he was promoted to the first team in 2018.

During his first season as a senior pro, he was sent out on loan to fellow Yorkshire club Bradford City, where he earned plaudits for his performances. Upon his return to Huddersfield, the praise continued – he played a pivotal role in their 2021/22 campaign that saw them reach the Championship playoff final.

In 2022, he was signed by Nottingham Forest – but where will his next destination be?
