Sheffield United Beat Wrexham In Thrilling FA Cup Replay

Sheffield United were pushed hard last night, as they took on Phil Parkinson’s Wrexham in an FA Cup Fourth Round Replay. The Blades snatched a late equaliser at The Racecourse Ground to force a replay – this time, they were not going to let the Red Dragons get the upper hand.

After a tense first half with neither team willing to give an inch, The Blades broke the deadlock in the 50th minute through Anel Ahmedhodzic. It had been coming – the Blades missed two great opportunities in the first half, including a chance that saw James McAtee clean through on goal.

However, just a few minutes later a foul on Paul Mullin drew a contentious penalty for Wrexham – there was debate as to whether it occured inside the box. Nevertheless, Mullin dispatched the spot kick with aplomb and levelled the scores.

Following this, Wrexham were awarded another penalty for another foul on Mullin. This time, though, Adam Davies was equal to it and stopped the Welsh team from taking the lead.

In the dying embers of the game, a defensive error from Wrexham allowed United’s talisman, Billy Sharp, to bare down on goal – and score. A third goal courtesy of Sander Berge after an incisive break away sealed the deal for Sheffield United and ensured they would be moving on to the fifth round.

Overall, it was probably a fair result – United dominated the play, notching up 32 shots to Wrexham’s nine. Regardless, it was a thrilling encounter that neither set of fans will be forgetting any time soon.
