REPORT: Everton Target Sheffield United Stalwart As Ancelotti Starts Squad Revamp

Everton are keen on signing Sheffield United defender John Egan in the January transfer window, according to the Mirror. New Toffees boss Carlo Ancelotti is said to be considering a move for the Irish international next month.

The 27-year-old has been a key part of a Blades defence that has conceded just 16 goals in 18 league games this season, helping Chris Wilder’s side to fifth in the table before today’s game against Watford.

Everton, in contrast, have struggled at the back, having already let in 29 this campaign. It has led to the Merseyside club casting their eye over Egan.

The Irishman is a vital component of United’s three-man backline. While the likes of Chris Basham and Jack O’Connell are allowed to roam forward, Egan keeps his position in the centre of the pitch to cut out danger.

Wilder says he is confident that the Blades do have the finances to keep their best players but it remains to be seen what sort of offer Everton will put on the table.
