Pundit Tips Wilder For Arsenal Hotseat After Stunning Start To The Season With The Blades

Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has claimed that Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder should be a candidate for the top jobs following the Blades’ excellent start to the season.

United currently sit sixth after 11 games following their promotion from the Championship, and Cascarino thinks Wilder should be considered for positions at Arsenal or Manchester United if they become vacant:

“Man Utd job, Arsenal job – Chris Wilder? Absolutely. There would be a snobbery around football that would go for Allegri or Mourinho. But I’m like, No, I’d rather go with Chris Wilder.”

“He knows football, he’s a proper football person. Like Sir Alex Ferguson, Jurgen Klopp at Mainz, Pep Guardiola at Barcelona B – he’s shown what he can do. I believe there are managers in lower league football who are very gifted and deserve an opportunity. Chris has gone through the whole lot.”

Wilder has certainly proven himself capable as a manager at every level of the game. Having worked in the county leagues as manager of Alfreton, and managed Conference sides like Halifax and Oxford, he then took over at Northampton before arriving at Bramall Lane in 2016.

With promotions from League One and the Championship under his belt, he is now demonstrating superb tactical acumen in the top flight. The Blades have the joint best defensive record this season, alongside Leicester, having conceded just eight league goals in total.

After adding some more goals with the 3-0 win over Burnley at the weekend, the sky really is the limit for Wilder and his team.
