Journalist Claims Sheffield United And Rangers Are Battling To Sign Ex Chelsea Star

Sheffield United are keen on recruiting former Chelsea and Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero on a free transfer, according to Goal reporter Nizaar Kinsella.

The website’s Chelsea correspondent claims that the Blades want the former Argentinian international to replace Aaron Ramsdale, who they sold to Arsenal:

As Kinsella mentions, Scottish champions Rangers are also involved in the race for Caballero’s signature but United can offer the 39-year-old first-team football.

Rangers already have Allan McGregor, Jon McLaughlin and Robby McCrorie as options and Caballero would have far less competition for his place if he made the switch to Bramall Lane instead.

At the moment, it is not clear whether the Argentine veteran is open to playing for a team in the second tier of English football. He has been without a club since leaving Chelsea in June, but he is still a capable keeper despite the fact that he turns 40 at the end of next month.
