Blades youngster set for bright future

As Sheffield United youngster David Brooks continues to impress on the international stage, one former Wales star has predicted great things for him.

Brooks burst onto the scene this season with the Blades, and earned himself a call-up in Chris Coleman’s Wales squad during the last international break.

This time around though the youngster was given his full debut by Coleman, and played over 70 minutes against Panama. He was substituted with perhaps United’s next game against Burton in mind, but up until that point he was arguably the best player in the Welsh team.

Former Welsh international and West Ham midfielder Jack Collinson agreed, and says he believes the winger has a bright future ahead of him.

“Brooks showed his quality out there, especially on his left foot,” said Collison.

“There were some wonderful deliveries into the box, but it was his intelligence that impressed me, coming in from the wing. He got on the ball and showed his skills, and he was exciting.

“He picks up the ball in clever positions and looks to make things happen. With the youngsters Wales have, they have energy and enthusiasm and they’ll make some bad decisions.

“But he will only get better as he plays more games. We’re looking at a bright player for the future here.”
