Blades star hoping to push for promotion

Sheffield United new boy John Egan has insisted he is targeting promotion with the club for the upcoming season.

The 25-year-old joined the Blades from Brentford in a £4m club record deal, signing for the second time after previously spending time on loan at the club in 2012.

It’s an exciting acquisition for the Blades, and the Republic of Ireland international has showed a clear level of ambition by expressing his desire to get the club back into the big time.

Speaking about his first impressions since re-joining Sheffield United, Egan said: “There is a really good squad here. They were very unlucky to miss out on the play-offs last season.

“We have to try and be in the mix and promotion is the target.

“The manager sold that ambition to me. A lot of clubs have ambitions to go to the Premier League. It was the same at Brentford, but I played against Sheffield United last season and know about them.

“They are a very, very good side. Hopefully we can go one better this season.”

The defender then went on to speak about his transfer fee, after he became the club’s record signing – beating a record held for over 10 years.

“I don’t think any fee brings a pressure,” he added. “The manager has shown his belief in me. It is up to me now to show him and the lads what I am about.”
