Sheffield United have been scouting AZ Alkmaar midfielder Tijjani Reijnders, according to reports in England.

The Blades’ recruitment chief Paul Mitchell was said to be in the stands for AZ’s 2-1 win over Volendam in the Dutch Eredivisie last weekend.

Reijnders would have impressed with his performance as he got on the scoresheet to put his side 2-0 up five minutes before half-time. The 24-year-old has now hit the back of the net five times this season, as well as contributing six assists, in 26 appearances.

United manager Paul Heckingbottom is believed to be keen on adding more depth in midfield so as to maintain the Yorkshire club’s push for automatic promotion.

Reijnders would be an excellent addition, considering his form this campaign, but it remains to be seen whether AZ would let him go. The midfielder still has two and a half years remaining on his contract at the Dutch club and they may demand a sizeable fee for his services.
