Blades Run Rule Over 19 Year Old Defender As They Line Up Potential Summer Move

Sheffield United have taken Reading fullback Lynford Sackey on trial, according to reports in the English media.

The 19-year-old is believed to be training with the Blades this week, as the Yorkshire club consider signing the player on a permanent basis.

Sackey’s contract with Reading expires in June so it looks as though the Royals have already made the decision to release the defender.

The former England Under 16 international has actually made a first-team appearance for Reading this season, coming in the first round of the Carabao Cup back in August, when he played the full 90 minutes against Swansea in a 3-0 defeat.

That was only Sackey’s second senior appearance, though, and he has only made the matchday squad for a league game twice this campaign. He is a right-back by trade but he has also been deployed on the opposite flank on occasion. It remains to be seen if he has done enough to convince United that he deserves a long-term contract.
