Blades keep fighting as Wilder insists “we found a way to win out there”

After securing a valuable win last night at Bramall Lane while not at their best by a long-shot, Sheffield United have moved back into 7th position in the Championship.

United have closed to within 2 points of 6th place Middlesbrough as former Blades boss, Nigel Clough had his relegation threatened Burton side give the Blades all they could handle in his return to the Lane.

Enda Stevens scored his first United goal to make it 1-0 and to celebrate his call up to the Republic of Ireland squad, then Welsh sensation David Brooks doubled the lead to seal the 2-0 Blades win.

The Blades had pushed for more goals but ended up pulling off a solid if not spectacular win while keeping a clean sheet.

Speaking after the game Chris Wilder had this to say:

“There have been countless games this season we’d have got something out of if we’d have taken our chances. We took our chances out there.

“Of course, like everyone else, I want to see us perform well. But I’m not daft enough to think that, especially at this stage of the season, that’s the ‘be all and end all’ of the matter.

“You’ve also got to get results and that’s what we’ve done.

“The best teams always find a way to win.

Chris Wilder went on to acknowledge the return of Nigel Clough to Bramall Lane saying:

“We always knew that was going to be difficult, especially because their manager was coming back here,”

“They’ve got nothing to lose and they’ll take points off people between now and the end of the season. “I wouldn’t be surprised if they take enough to stay-up.

“But we did what we had to and that was key. There have been times when I’ve been wondering how we’ve not won a game given how we’ve played so it’s important to be able to come through situations like that. “I thought second-half we were much better in terms of our passing and tempo.”

So the Blades are looking like a team that will be pushing for a top 6 finish right until the end of the season with 9 games left to be played in the ultra-competitive Championship.
