Blades Could Break Their Transfer Record In Pursuit Of £10m Rated Southampton Marksman

Sheffield United have enquired about signing Southampton striker Charlie Austin, according to reports in England.

The Saints are willing to sell the 29-year-old with the forward not part of manager Ralph Hasenhuttl’s first team plans.

Austin comes with a pretty hefty price tag, though, with the Blades likely having to break their transfer record if they want to sign him.

Southampton are reportedly demanding £10m for a player they signed from QPR for £4m back in January 2016.

Sheffield United’s current record transfer is the £4.1m they paid to sign Brentford defender John Egan back in July last year.

Austin made 27 appearances for Southampton last season, but only managed to score three goals and provide three assists. It must be said, though, that he only made 12 starts in all competitions for the South coast club.

Blades boss Chris Wilder is keen on reinforcing his frontline this summer with Gary Madine having returned to Cardiff after his loan spell, while Conor Washington has been a given a free transfer.
