Blades Among Six English Clubs Pursuing Scottish Playmaker Who Can Be Signed For Nothing

Sheffield United are interested in signing Farense midfielder Ryan Gauld, according to TEAMtalk. The website reports that the Blades are just one of six English teams who could make a move for the former Scotland Under 21 international.

The playmaker has spent the majority of the last seven years in Portugal but his contract is set to expire in the summer and he will be available on a free transfer.

Gauld’s availability has led to the likes of Brighton, Norwich, Brentford, Swansea and Blackburn Rovers getting involved, while MLS side Inter Miami are also said to be interested.

For his part, Gauld is believed to keen on playing in England. The midfielder started off his career with Dundee United before joining Sporting Lisbon in 2014. After a number of loan spells, including one that saw him return to Scotland with Hibernian, he moved to his current club Farense at the start of the 2019/20 campaign. He has become an important first-team player, having scored eight goals and provided eight assists in 30 appearances this season.
