Aston Villa V Sheffield United Set To Be The First Match As The Premier League Returns On June 17th

The Premier League have confirmed that matches will resume on Wednesday, June 17th. The season has been paused during the global health crisis but clubs have now opted to return three months after the campaign was suspended.

With Sheffield United and Aston Villa needing to play their game in hand, it has been decided that the Blades will play their first fixture ahead of the first round of matches on the weekend June 20th – 21st.

Arsenal’s game against Manchester City will also be played on the same day, but it does mean all four teams will likely have to play two matches in a very short period of time.

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has already said that his players could play a game tomorrow if they were asked to, and the Blades may need to use their squad depth to get through the first couple of fixtures.

In any case, fans will be delighted to hear that English football will be making its return next month, as the top flight looks to complete all its remaining games.
