£17.5M Forward Will Be Playing For The Blades Next Season In Big Boost For Heckingbottom

Blades striker Oli McBurnie will be staying at Bramall Lane for at least another season, according to reports.

The Scotland international’s contract was set to expire this summer but United have triggered their option to keep him for an additional twelve months.

McBurnie played a key role in Paul Heckingbottom’s side gaining promotion to the Premier League, scoring 12 goals in 36 Championship appearances.

The forward moved to the Yorkshire club from Swansea City for £17.5m in the summer of 2019, but there was a danger that he could leave on a free transfer.

After extending McBurnie’s stay for just a year, the Blades may have only delayed his departure, although they will be keen to offer him a long-term deal if he impresses on the team’s return to the top flight.

The ownership situation has been a major problem for contract negotiations and it will be hoped that, if a takeover is finalised, fresh extensions will be handed out to the likes of McBurnie, Sander Berge and Iliman Ndiaye.
